The cedar shingles here are original so we're doing what we can to preserve them. Jody did a lot of research and pressure washing on cedar is a big no no. I know a lot of people do it but the wood soaks up the water and within a couple years your paint is peeling (we rather suspect that was what was done before we moved in, as the house looked quite good then and now the paint is literally peeling off in strips). Stripping is hard work but hopefully the results will be longer lasting.Margueritehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14377516887669269657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1600547016363116211.post-7264834933620236662013-04-23T19:39:01.011-03:002013-04-23T19:39:01.011-03:00Young and naive perhaps? ;-) I have a feeling thi...Young and naive perhaps? ;-) I have a feeling this is going to be a looonng summer.Margueritehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14377516887669269657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1600547016363116211.post-87685119721381790942013-04-23T17:07:39.317-03:002013-04-23T17:07:39.317-03:00Marguerite,

We have vinyl and I hate it. It squeaks and cracks during expansion of the hot sun and high winds, plus piece tend to fall off.
Have you tried a power washer on a very low setting as to not ruin the wood, some people swear by it?
Both our garden shed and gazebo have cedar singles and I just love the look and the durability that have shown so far.
