Merry Christmas from the Corner

It's been a fun filled month this December.  Two weekends were spent taking part in the Living Nativity and we managed to raise over $3000 in support of the Upper Room Food Bank and the Canoe Cove Community Association.

We did our tour as Mary and Joseph with only a few minor mishaps like head butting goats and a cat that wouldn't stay out of the manger.

NOT a real baby!
The angels and choir sang beautifully, everybody commented on that huge cow and the baby donkey.  Overall both participants and audience had a blast.

We followed it up with the Christmas Concert at the schoolhouse.  I had not intended to participate in this since getting on stage is probably one of my worst nightmares but another number was desperately needed and it's for a good cause right?

Women's Institute members performing Santa Baby at
the 2012 Canoe Cove Christmas Concert
Which meant that I ended up, in front, singing Santa Baby dripping in fake diamonds and winking at the audience.  Several men said they are now considering joining the Women's Institute after our performance.  Yes, we are a lot of fun thank you.  I'm sure that's what they meant right?

If you're interested in hearing more about the goings on here in the Cove I would highly suggest you join the Facebook group 'I Love Canoe Cove'.  Upcoming events and photos of past ones are posted there for all to enjoy.

On top of these events we also managed to take in two performances at the Confederation Centre.  First enjoying a performance of the Wizard of Oz featuring some of Jody's theatre students who did a fantastic job.  Then taking in the amazing Barra MacNeils.

It's been a jam packed holiday season and I'm glad we're nearing Christmas.  I've got a pile of books to read and plans to sort through my seed packets this holiday season.

Merry Christmas to all my readers, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and best wishes to you in the New Year!

Hi Marguerite, Sounds as if your holidays are off to a wonderful start. The great thing about a small community is that you get to know your neighbours. I am glad that you were able to raise so much money for the local food bank and have fun doing so. There are a lot of people out there that are hurting. Have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2013!

Rose, that kitty gave me a good laugh too. Every time I turned around she was hopping up into the manger. Have a wonderful Christmas and see you in the New Year.

Merry Christmas Jennifer. This community has made all the difference living out here. I don't think I'd like it half as much if it weren't for our great neighbours. The season is winding down for me now. All the events were before Christmas and now I can put my feet up and relax. Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year.

Brenda, a very merry Christmas to you and the Captain. We tend to be a little quieter around here normally but it's hard to hide away in this community :)

Marguerite,
What happy and smiling faces. That's a awesome amount to donate to the upper room who are in great need this year as more and more people are having to turn to the food banks. Great to see the community all come together. The cat in the manger was priceless.
Wishing you and hubby a wonderful Christmas full of magic and love. All the best in the New Year.

What?!! No youtube video of you singing "Santa Baby"? ;) Love the cat on the manger, too - cats never mind and always want to be the center of attention! Wonderful that you raised so much for such good causes. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas!

Wow, they are good fiddle players. Loved the video. Was your rendition of Santa Baby worthy of a video? I would have liked to see it too. Oh, sorry Frosty got into the nativity. I was wondering what he was up to the last few days.

You too Jen! have a great holiday.

Merry Christmas Joy! I truly have trouble with stage fright but I have an even harder time saying no it seems. Despite it all I did have a lot of fun. Now I'm having fun sorting through seed packets :) Have a great holiday.

I was really impressed with the money we took in too. It was a lot of work but really worth the effort everyone put in. Have a great Christmas and best wishes to you in the new year.

and that is my worst fear! There was a video camera at the concert and I believe, for those interested, it will be shown at the New Years levee. Hopefully it will stay off the internet though :) Have a great Christmas and best wishes to you.

Donna, the video is great but the concert was fantastic. Such great energy from the crowd, we clapped and sang and had a really wonderful time. tee hee, that cat does look like Frosty doesn't he? He certainly kept us all entertained that evening.

Marguerite, Congratulations on your Santa Baby solo -- quite a contrast with your other role as the virgin Mary! (I loved the cat in the manger :-)) -Jean

Sounds like a fab lead-up to the holiday season. So nice to see how you and Jody have fallen into the PEI life. I think that makes a house a home as much as anything. Enjoy your books over the holidays! :)
