One year, I went to a local holiday house tour in mid-December, and many of the houses had arrangements of white pine boughs and branches of winterberry (Ilex verticillata) by the front door -- simple, but beautiful. I'm about to start a new round seasonal bouquets for the house by going out and cutting some forsythia branches for forcing.
