Garden Surprises

I was wandering around the flower garden the other day.  Plotting my next move.  I've been working hard, one section at a time.  Clearing weeds, amending the soil, adding new plants and finally mulching.  Then I move on to the next section.  A few feet at a time I'm finishing this beast of a garden.

So there I found myself, having finished another section and contemplating what next.  That's when I spotted it.

Through the flowers I spied a shape.

Do you see anything behind the flowers?
My first thought was cat.  They often hide out among the flowers.  Spying on birds and relaxing in the shade.

Could it be Gino?
But then I saw ears, and my heart stopped for a minute.

A bunny.  OMG DON'T MOVE YOU'LL SCARE IT!!!

Except ..... hang on ...

That's a pretty solid looking bunny.  I don't think it's running anywhere.  I've been had.

I ran inside and down to the basement.

Jody!!  I found something in the garden!!

He turns and looks at me.  What's that? he says

I raise an eyebrow and that's all it takes.  He can't help himself.  The corners of his mouth turn up just a touch before he completely cracks up, breaking into a wide smile.

Okay, it was me!  Happy Birthday sweetheart.

  2. What a lovely surprise - will you leave it in the undergrowth or bring it out to be admired by all the other bunnies passing through.

    1. I've left it where it is for now, I rather like that it's hiding a bit. But maybe when the flower bed is finally complete it will move to a new spot.

  3. What fun. Happy Birthday to you... Your garden is looking lovely. I am surprised you don't constantly have bunnies roaming around taste testing all the plants.

    1. Thanks Lisa. Every year I wonder if this will be the year bunnies come to my garden. That's why it tricked me. I know there's bunnies in our neighbourhood but so far I've been extremely lucky.

  8. Happy Birthday, Marguerite. Is that a 'Quick Fire' hydrangea the bunny was hiding behind? I've seen several of those this year, and I want one!! -Jean

    1. What a great eye you have Jean!! It is indeed Quick Fire and I can't possibly say enough how much I love this plant. Lovely flat white blooms starting in July. It looks like a lacecap to my eye though it's a paniculata. End of August the blooms turn bright pink. Blooms keep going right through to frost. It's grown exceedingly well for me, just over 5 feet high and wide now after 3 years. No trouble at all with our nasty winters. Would highly recommend.

You got a birthday bunny from Jodie ;-) that is just too sweet .. I wonder how long her worked on placing it just right for you to discover and thought how surprised you would be .. now that is thoughtful.
And yes ! Quick Fire is a great hydrangea .. I will be planting Little Quick Fire in the garden this week hopefully .. it would go well with a little bunny ? LOL
Hope you had more fun on your birthday after that surprise girl!

    1. Thank you Joy :) he's an awfully thoughtful guy. he was actually disappointed I found the bunny so quick (it was the day before my birthday). he thought I had gone to the other side of the yard to work in the veggies and hid it thinking I wouldn't come back into the flowers for another day. I just couldn't resist going back and taking a walk around though.

    1. Isn't that the truth! I might not have been so happy if bunnies had really taken up residence in my flower bed.

    1. Thanks Tammy. Well, the guy who sold it to him told Jody even statuary bunnies have a habit of multiplying ;-) I may be forced to find more room for bunnies in the future.
