Fresh fallen snow is pretty but it means it's STILL winter |
Finally on Saturday I decided enough was enough. We were getting outside no matter the weather.
It's a beautiful day, let's take the long loop |
We made our way to the local nordic ski park.
The ski park is a great spot all year round. In summer these are hiking and biking trails (see the trails in summer here) but in winter they are a quiet retreat for snowshoers.
We had our work cut out for us. It's a lot easier hiking these hills in summer. After our recent storm the fresh snow dragged on our weary legs. I started out the day wearing a scarf and hat but after 6km a cold snow bank looked too good to pass up.
Hoping you too are finding ways to get through these last few days of winter.
Snow angels in late March? Oh my. I feel the same way -- we have snow still on the ground here too, and I finally had to get out today. I didn't need snow shoes, but still, it was a bit of a winter adventure. It's late March already!!
ReplyDeleteMarch is a funny month here. Jodi @ Bloomingwriter calls it 'Farch' and a local weatherman stated 'March can break your heart'. The sun wants to shine and melt everything but the sky won't quite stop snowing. I'm trying my hardest to learn to live with it.
DeleteThis is such a great place to go in snow and sun. You are right, the snow gets tiring after a long hike. Always time for a snow angel.
ReplyDeleteIt really is a great place Donna. So glad this spot is open year round.
DeleteLooks like you had a great day for snowshoeing -- but, like you, I find these winter scenes much more beautiful in December and January than in March and April! -Jean
ReplyDeleteExactly Jean! Those first snow falls of the year are exciting, at this point, I just can't believe it's still coming down.
DeleteOh, you have a spammer up there!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that it is a really good workout using snow shoes...maybe next time my back is up to it.
Jen
Definitely good exercise, add some hills in there and I had some sore spots that night.
DeleteLooks like fun to me. I probably couldn't walk that far though. I would take the short loop. :)
ReplyDeleteI find the worse the cabin fever the farther I need to walk to shake it off :)
DeleteI would have loved to have been on this hike!! P.S. by disallowing anonymous commenting you can prevent spammers like the one above. It helped me!!
ReplyDeleteKeith you're a genius!! thank you for the suggestion. I've been wondering how to get rid of those guys.
DeleteI hope it helps. It definitely helped me!
Deletenow if blogger had a like button I could just click it ......
ReplyDeleteI like :)
Glad you enjoyed this Frances :)
DeleteI've always wanted to go snowshoeing, looks like fun!
ReplyDeleteI highly recommend it. If you like hiking, you would surely like this. It's a little harder on the muscles though.
DeleteI enjoyed hiking with you in the snow, vicariously, from my fireside chair, as I watch yet another snowfall blanketing my garden. This extended winter is making me lazy. P. x
ReplyDeleteOne thing I find about the long winters here is that it's easy to lounge and not get outside. I have no interest in going to gyms so my only outlet is getting outdoors. I've been trying to make sure this year that despite the weather I still get that much needed exercise.
DeleteLooks like you both were having some great fun.
ReplyDeleteWinter can feel so long and when we get snow again after being able to see the grass last week it's depressing. I'm really tired of snow and desperately want the heat to melt all this crap.
I guess you may feel different if you had a get away vacation during the Winter, but we didn't so I want to see those Spring flowers popping out of the ground.
Take Care
I know what you mean, that melt we had got me so excited about spring, only to see snow again. Very frustrating.
DeleteThat looks like a wonderful day. Our snow is all melted here in CT so I'm really hoping Mother Nature doesn't have any tricks up her sleeve. I'm ready for spring.
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling, we're starting to melt again but I'm wondering if there won't be yet another dump of the white stuff.
DeleteI've never gone snowshoeing but it looks like fun! A lot of hard work too.
ReplyDeleteyou've got that right! fun and a work out.
DeleteThat looks like fun! We had a weird snow storm, too, but it all melted the next day. I get ansty when I can't get enough exercise.
ReplyDeleteThe good about this time of year is that even if it snows you know it can't possibly last too long. We're on the upside of winter now.
DeleteOh, this looks like so much fun, and such a beautiful place to walk! I would definitely be taking the short loop, though:)
ReplyDeleteIt is a really lovely place to walk. Being a ski hill the woods surrounding the trails are fairly undisturbed so there's lots of plants to check out and there's some great views.
DeleteI'm glad you're enjoying winter! I find that if the sun is shining, I enjoy being outside much more than being cooped up. Such a pretty walk, too, although I imagine it was much, much harder than in summer!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad we get sun in winter here, it makes a huge difference, compels you get outside despite the cold conditions.
DeleteLooks beautiful and sounds exhausting! Great to enjoy the snow while it is still around, you live in a beautiful place.
