It's that time of year. When the weather is too hot and humid to move let alone think of gardening.
We've been dining on salads to beat the heat.
Personally I prefer lettuce to grass but whatever takes your fancy |
Even the garden ornaments have crawled into the shade among the ferns and the moss.
There's only one place to go when it gets this hot.
Ironically I have more fun at the beach when the tide is out. I like dipping my toes in the shallow pools left behind, checking out all the shells trapped in the sand. I think other people might feel the same way.
Jeffrey must feel pretty special |
Hot humid weather always leads to the same thing though. Thunder storms. Perfectly timed to explode out of the sky just after I've put laundry out on the line.

Looks idyllic ! Empty beaches too !
Those afternoon showers makes one feel quite tropical.
YES the beach is calling my name as well!! Luckily I'm going in two weeks!
I am feeling like I live in a tropical rainforest. We've gotten so much rain and the humidity is...well, like a sauna. I sweat just standing outdoors, forget working in the garden! The beach looks much more appealing!
Hanging laundry to dry is the surest way to get it to rain.
Hello: Great to see you posting more often again..it's hot and humid here too, thankfully we have one of those big rubber blue pools..(costs a lot to fill it tho).I feel homesick seeing those beach pictures..but looks like we might be out there from Aug.4th until middle of Sept..another lay-off for hubby..so we will get lots of work done..thanks for your complimentary comments re: my reunion..it was fun..hope to see you this summer..Happy Gardening Lannie
Hot and heavy...we had a few days of that, hope that you get clear and warm.
Jen
I love poking around tidal pools as well.
Oh you really portray the sweltering heat well. Thank goodness you have a beach to escape to. Enjoy your paddling - whether on the beach, or in the puddles left by the storm.
Oh I love a good beach your sand is very dark - where we go on holiday in England the sand is almost pure white, but whatever the colour it is great being near the sea. Glad you are enjoying the hot weather.
Marguerite girl ... I spent part of my childhood on the coast , Louisbourg .. and I love it and miss it to this day. You are so lucky .. enjoy every grain of sand and I too loved exploring the tidal pools and streams .. nothing was better in my life than those times : )
Joy
Hot, humid, and so much rain here, too. Now you've got me thinking about the beach. P. x
I had to come back and look at this post again today because I absolutely LOVE that picture of the gray tabby :)
I love the colour of the sand on your beach. Enjoy the hot weather.
Jane, we are so fortunate here, the beaches in this area always have tons of room to spread out.
they sure do! although a real tropical location wouldn't be too bad either.
yah! have a wonderful vacation, nothing quite like the beach in summer.
Karin, that's where I was at too. You're sweating before you even lift a finger. The beach really is the only place to go when it gets like that.
you said it!
Thanks Lannie, feels good to get back writing :) August 4 will be here before you know it. We definitely need to plan a get together.
thankfully it didn't last too long, it's hot now but without the heavy :)
there's always so much action. Best part about the beach I think, keeps you entertained for hours.
We are so very lucky to have a beach close by. We really got the best of all worlds here with a small acreage, quiet area and a beach minutes away.
It is a funny colour for a beach. Our beaches, like all the dirt here, are red. Excess iron in the soil is the reason. I just find it so pleasant to have a sand beach. When I lived on the west coast all the beaches were rock, rather hard on the feet.
Thank you Joy. You're so right, sometimes we need to remind ourselves just how good we have it here. We need to appreciate every moment.
lots of thunderstorms around here too this year. It's shaping up to be a hot one.
Thanks Keith :) he's a handsome devil isn't he? like the supermodel of the cat world
Thanks Melanie. I had completely forgotten how weird that colour would look to other people. After 4 years here the red dirt no longer fazes me.
