What an odd sight! Is the garden dressed up for Halloween? Ghosties playing amongst the dill?
A cute thought but unfortunately that's not what is going on. There's a FROST WARNING for this evening.
Yes, frost.... Really.
I know it's only September 8. I'm not terribly impressed either but there's not much we can do. Unless you want to start petitioning Mother Nature.
I only just started picking tomatoes a couple days ago. The harvest hasn't even really begun. So I did what any good gardener would do. I ripped the sheets off my bed and dragged them into the garden to cover up as many tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers as I could.
It's about time I bought some new bed sheets anyway.
Your poor garden. Crazy weather. Here it is getting into the 40's later this week. I hope the ghosties don't have to come here so soon. Good luck.

DeleteYes, had to cover some of my plants as well. If we can get through this full moon, we should be okay again for a little while. But the inevitable is just around the corner ;-)

DeleteOuch, so early! It's going to be 90 here this week (and was in the 90s last week too) and it's hard to believe we're due our first frost in 6 to 7 weeks. I hope your garden made it through the cold OK!

The garden is mud! We did dig up our potatoes on Monday in between showers.

DeleteFrost already? Your poor garden. But very enterprising draping everything in sheets. I have been know to run out into the night in my nightie and throw tablecloths over precious things when taken unawares by frost. But never in September. Oh dear. I hope you get some more warm weather. It has turned lovely and warm here. But perhaps I shouldn' t say that. It sounds like gloating.
ReplyDeleteLOL, I can just picture you running around in a nightdress in the wee hours. Sadly I was considering doing just the same yesterday. I could hear the wind howling and wondering if it would be totally crazy to run outside at 5 am to check if my sheets were holding.
DeleteSo weird. It snowed in a few places in the US. We're having normal weather here although the weather guessers are predicting a colder than normal winter. Hopefully, the plants will be none the worse after the frost is over. I hope all those sheets work.
ReplyDeleteThe weather really is odd right now. Snow in Alberta last week too. Our temps have been up and down, 25 degrees today but it was 10 degree just a day ago and we had to turn on the furnace. A little concerned what this winter will bring.

DeleteOh gosh ! Did the frost happen as predicted ? If so, I hope your bed sheets prevented any damage . In the uk there was a widespread frost in Scotland in AUGUST! Unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteHi Jane, we got lucky that night, and lucky again a few nights later when frost was predicted again. But not so lucky now :( August is seriously early for frost, that would be a reason to move I think!

DeleteUgh! That reminds me of living in Norway, we often had first snowfall in late September, and even though it would not lay for long, it really was the start of a loooong winter. I feel for you! I so appreciate living in London where winter is short or even absent some years :-)
ReplyDeleteHelene, I've been warned they sometimes get snow as early as October here but I've yet to see it. Thankfully the earliest snows have come in November. I can't imagine how long a winter would seem it the white stuff came that early. You must really appreciate London.
DeleteThe weather here has been an odd mix of hot and cold. Sunday it was 24 degrees and felt like summer. We have also had really cool days and nights. No frost warnings...yet.

DeleteWe usually start getting frosts in mid-October, but it varies quite a bit. Once the frost does hit I pretty much give up on all my tender plants.
