September Bouquet and Reminder

I must be getting old because time seems to be flying by faster than I can blink my eyes.  It's the end of September already and time for this month's garden bouquet.

Each month Noelle at Ramblings from a Desert Garden reminds me to bring a little of the beauty from outside, inside to be appreciated.

I knew whatever my bouquet consisted of it had to include dahlias.  We've had frost warnings recently and I know when the frost hits the dahlias will be the first to succumb.  Bringing them inside will preserve them just a little while longer so I can get my fill of their beauty.

Also included were Polka Dot Bachelor Buttons.  They bloom in shades from dark purple to blue and white.

A little cilantro gone to flower filled it out and I was set.

A reminder that if you haven't had a chance to leave a comment on my post on Novica then you'd better hurry.   The draw for the $50 gift certificate will take place this weekend!

Dahlias and bachelor buttons.... it doesn't get any happier than that. Such a nice combination.

My favourite colour palette is green, blue and purple so this is my favourite bouquet so far this year!
Frost warnings?? Yikes! That's scary! We've been getting down to 10 or 12 degrees at night but nothing that low yet. I am just not ready for the cold, memories of a long cold wet spring are still too recent!

Blue and white is always such a refreshing look with flowers. So calming. Hmm... I need more blue and white in my garden!

Thanks Laurrie. This is my first year growing bachelor buttons and they have done really well. Such a pretty flower and I really like the dark coloured ones.

Jane - We haven't had actual frost yet but they keep calling for it in low lying areas. Nights have gone down to 6 degrees in our area and I'm waking up to lots of fog and dew these days.

Holley - Last month my bouquet was all yellows so I was trying to find something a little cooler this month. I like the description of calming.

Pretty. I went out to cut some flowers today and either couldn't bare to lose them from the garden or couldn't work out what to put them with!

I love your flower arrangements and you inspired me this week to cut some of my mums and some pale pink daisies plus the marigolds the frost didn't get..we had two nights of really hard frost but thankfully I picked all the green tomatoes of which there must be a hundred..I am continually cooking up spaghetti sauce or chili in large batches and freezing it..thanks for inspiring me..in fact I purchased two new vases at the Salvation Army Thursday..Happy Gardening....Lannie

Thanks Christine, I really love pulling these bouquets together.

Janet - Now that my garden is starting to grow I don't mind cutting flowers as much as there's plenty to choose from but it can be hard to remove them still.

Thanks Johanna, gathering flowers always makes me happy.

Lannie - How very sweet of you. Glad to hear you're enjoying your flowers indoors. frost already! and I thought we had it bad. I wasn't too worried about cutting dahlias right now because I know they'll be ruined soon enough anyway.

Dahlias are beautiful. You have a good mix there too! Yes, I agree that time flies... especially when we are having fun. :)

The bouquet is lovely and yes, calming. Glad you had success growing dahlias..I only ever get green, no flowers. Must tell you, I rarely pick flowers from the garden to bring in the house but will take your lead if I hear murmurs of frost. Thanks

I love Batchelor Buttons -- great colors. Nice bouquet.

How beautiful! I really love bachelors buttons! My dahlias are just getting ready to bloom. I think bouquets of wildflowers are so much more attractive than florists bouquets. I once saw a florist sign that called them "bokays".

I am very bad about bringing flowers inside which is so funny because I have so many available. Lovely bouquet.

One - that must be it, I was having too much fun in the garden and time passed quickly!

Thanks fer, I love the dark purple too.

Brenda - some of my dahlias are only just blooming now, it's such a short season here. I think the trick here is to start them indoors just a bit earlier.

Janet - I've never grown Bachelor Buttons before but I really like them. Lots of detail in that flower that I didn't know of.

Tammy - I just saw a 'bokay' sign in a post recently at Three Dogs in a Garden (Jennifer). I thought the writer must have been in a hurry!

Carolyn - I'm surprised at how few people bring flowers inside. It's always been one of the things I love about a flower garden is free bouquets!
