Triumphs and Tragedies

It has been another busy week.

We started with this

Then removed the gutters

and replaced rotted faceboards with only a minimal amount of cursing.

Then these guys came

and it got a little messy

and finally we got this
Pretty shingles!
Note - the lower roof wasn't complete when I took this photo
There were some injuries in the surrounding beds

This peony is looking pretty beaten and bruised
but thankfully all humans and felines are in one piece.

And I found this

coming up in the paths of the vegetable garden which made me smile.  Chamomile, cilantro and lemon balm have all self seeded.

M - you are living my parallel house life up north there...my house is getting 'new' hair in the next couple of weeks. The old roof is close to extinction. :)!

I love it when plants we love reseed. It's like getting a little present. Hooray for your new roof!

Wow, the roof looks great. Hope to see some more pictures when it is all completed. Poor peony but I'm sure it will continue to grow, just a little misshaped this year.
Have a nice long weekend.

Such a big job! And there are usually casualties when workmen are around, aren't there? Love volunteers! Isn't it great when good things seed around?

Self seeded is a vote of confidence. We like it here. Both plants, and readers!

hello Marguerite, my you have been busy while I've been away, nice to catch up, I love your style in your piano room, that light is gorgeous and I quite like the cabinate in the room setting, something small would perhaps have been lost in a large room,
so pleased for you both that you now have your new roof, such a relief to know all is secure and no more leaks,
your garden is growing well now soon be summer and lovely to have selfseeded plants, I hope the peony recovers fine, I also hope you have/had a good plant sale day today, Frances

you too!! best of luck Jess. I can tell you it's LOUD and be sure to get dressed early in the mornings. I learned that the hard way, wandering around in my pj's only to find a roofer on a ladder outside the window.

it was very unexpected and changes how I'll plant that bed but such a welcome surprise. Definitely a sweet present.

We're still spending a lot of time picking up shingles and bits of paper and nails. The mess is rather traumatic but so nice to pull up and see the roof looking so nice. I'll take some photos soon.

So thrilled to finally have this project out of the way. It's been there at the back of my mind for ages and now the worry is all gone.

Norah, one of the reasons I have never bothered too much with the beds directly around the house was I knew there would come a day when the roof and painting would need to be done and all hell would break loose. I'm surprised more damage wasn't done actually.

You're very sweet Diana. I'm glad everyone is as happy to be here as we are.

There you are Frances! I wondered where you had disappeared to. The roof is an immense relief. I had thought we would wait all summer to get it fixed. The plant sale was a roaring success, people lined up an hour before opening but I still managed to bring home a couple treats for myself.

Hi Brenda! have you been on vacation or just working hard outdoors? I'm scrambling to get my veggie garden ready this weekend, it's been so warm I want to start planting out.

Yay the roof is done!! It looks great, what an improvement from the old curled up shingles. I love how comfortable that guy is up on your steep roof, I wouldn't dare!
