Passing Seasons

Going through old photos I'm always surprised.  No matter how vivid summer is in my memory there's plants I have forgotten about.  Like the glorious rush of Sonata Mixed Cosmos in early summer.

Or old milk buckets filled with red geraniums..

The blossoms of highbush cranberry.

Sometimes what catches my eye in the photos is not just what I've forgotten but what I failed to notice.

Anybody know who this rather fetching insect is?  He matches the button on this cosmos very nicely.

This was a rather boring shot of a lawn chair until I realized those flowers are growing not just around the chair

but also through it.

Of course one of the best things about going through old photos is reliving some wonderful moments.  On Canada Day we went to the Rocky Point lighthouse and watched the fireworks in Charlottetown from across the water.

We had the best seat in the house.

Or remembering my trip to Calgary for my nephew's wedding.

Jody wasn't able to make the trip with me but he wasn't forgotten.

Some photos capture a moment in time perfectly.  Years from now I like to think I'll look back at this photo and happily remember this house and how wonderful it was to live here.

Surfing old photos on a winter day is a delight. Your last one of the house and roses is one you'll come back to over and over. That's a keeper!

I love looking through my photo albums while bundled up on a cold winter night.

You put me to shame Marguerite. I must start going through my won archives. Pictures of summer flowers have a way of warming the soul on days like this that are freezing cold. I love the cosmos. Mine never prosper. I think that I need to find a better spot for them next year.

I so enjoyed this post...put me in mind of summer and reminding me not to forget the sometimes fleeting joy of it.

May I ask, did your sonata mix grow taller than the two feet they say it grows in my seed catalogue. Beautiful photo.

Cosmos are one of my favorites, also cranberrybush viburnum.

Nothing makes us yearn for spring and summer more than looking at photos of our best flowers from last year. I can’t wait for spring to get started properly! Loved your cosmos mix, beautiful colours.

I love that photo too Laurrie. It was my computer wallpaper for a number of months.

It was fun, I had forgotten there were photos of me at the lighthouse. That was a great night.

I agree, this is the best time to do it. Far too cold to even think about going outside now.

What can I say - going through old photos is a great way to put off doing housework? ;-) I'd much rather look at pictures of flowers than clean the oven.

Brenda, the cosmos grew about 1 - 2 feet at most but I must admit I didn't plant them from seed. I had such a hard time with the dryness this year getting seeds going. I planted my orange cosmos from seed and was having trouble there so I bought a number of 99 cent packs of the Sonata mix to give me a little instant colour.

Cosmos are definitely one of my favourites too. Such an easy going plant and so vibrant.

So true, this just makes me wish for spring to hurry up.

Hi Marguerite: Love the photos as usual. Don't know the name of that bug on the cosmos but it's the one that eats my roses and also my iris..so I squish them fast..Sure hope the weather improves as we leave next Monday or Tuesday for the island..it's frigid here, -27 most mornings. Your flower photos made me long for summer days..keep warm..Lannie

Lovely photos Marguerite. Count me in. Like everyone I too have been reliving summer through photos.I just got 25 packets of seed from a seed exchange and they need to be planted this week. Lots and lots of primula seed. Gardening in the dead of winter is good for the soul.

Donna

PS Homes happily lived in stay in your heart and how could that not be a happy home!

That made me smile - I spent some time earlier today looking back through photographs for a specific plant and got waylaid by memories en route. Your house looks so lovely in that last photo.

I visit my summer garden, too, when I'm cruising for pix to add to my posts. I love the picture of the chair and the daisies. So cool. :o) The cosmos pic is classic summer. LOVE IT!

Lannie, the cold this week has been brutal hasn't it? -35 with the wind chill most days. Thank goodness for summer photos, I can only dream of being warm right now.

So nice to start thinking about planting seeds. I still have to order mine but I'm dearly looking forward to starting some green things indoors.

They sure are Frances, the sun is peeking out a little more each day and that to me is even nicer than warm weather.

Marguerite said...

Thank you! we could sure use some warming around here. :)

Well said Jen :)

So easy to do that! I'm finding that going through the old photos is time consuming just for that reason.

Obviously I don't do near enough sitting around in my garden :) Too busy pulling weeds in bed to notice the flowers growing up through my lawn chair.

Nice to look through the past season's photos. Love that black and white lawn chair.
