Today's Tragedy - rotten Blogger. They shut down the system, deleted my Knot Garden post and the comments. They said the post would be reinstated and it was, sort of. They put the post back in my drafts folder. But it wasn't the published post. It was a much earlier draft. Would I need to re-write it again?
Triumph - some searching on Google gave me an idea. I searched my blog and the title 'Knot Garden' on Google. A cached copy of the post appeared. I was able to copy and paste and voila, post restored. A little work was needed to add the links and photos but we're back up and running. Comments were much the same. I have them emailed to me so it was a matter of going into email, thank goodness my deleted folder hadn't been cleared, and copying, pasting.
Crisis averted. Now we can get back to gardening....

This is why I had to leave Blogger. I was a loyal Blogspot user for years because of its simplicity and no-frills out of the box working blog but this stuff is such a turn off!
Ugh! I've had Bogger issues before and once thought I was going to have to redo a big post because it wouldn't save! I'm glad you found your post because I've been looking forward to reading it. Working definitely gets in the way of gardening, sleeping, reading, blogging, ... :o)
I had some issues too. I am glad to hear someone else talking about it.
PS I adore you cat clan too.
Don't anyone move! Blogger will do a good job of it if you stand still. I am so glad you were able to recover. I had gone to comment on your post yesterday or the day before then I lost it. You're back that is all that matters, wonder if others knew to do what you did finding a copy, perhaps. K, going back to what I was doing, gezz I don't do mornings
Tragedy averted, due to Google and your quick-thinking!
Don't you just hate losing writing of any sort? Such trauma!
:)
Have a great weekend!
I lost a post and comments, but the post finally came back - not the comments. I decided to wait a bit before I post again. Very disappointing, but I'm still thankful for their service. Smart of you to go searching!
My SCHEDULED post came back as only a Title. I am not leaving Blogger but I reactivated an idle Wordpress blog. Neither platform is perfect.
Excellent, so happy you found a way to get your post back, I got an email to say it was there and there it wasn't. Am off to read it now.
Marguerite, 3 months after I started blogging in 2005 I had a post disappear as I clicked 'post' it was blogger, after that I wrote and still write all my posts off line in a word programme then C&P into my blog, if you want to keep your posts as a journal I recommend you have some kind of back up and do not just rely on your chosen blogging platform software,
glad you found your post, have a nice weekend, Frances
I had Blogger issues too but not as smart as you!! So now I'm off to do a search also :)
Thanks everyone for your responses. I have to say that despite the frustration on Friday I won't be leaving Blogger any time soon. For someone who didn't know what a blog was a couple years ago blogger has been a blessing with their easy to use system. and considering it's free I really can't complain about the service I've received. In fact, given it's a free system I'm pretty impressed with how well it works on any given day.
Ficurinia - thanks for the compliment! I'll tell the cats they have an admirer.
Kim - I have to admit, I was a bit taken back, losing all that writing. I'm such a slow writer and thinking I would have to do it over was not a happy thought.
NellJean - so that's what happened with your blog. I knew a long while back you were doing something different and then I couldn't access it through blotanical and then I found it again. *light went off* of course, you switched when I wasn't paying attention.
Frances - you're so organized! and I'll bet you sleep well at night. The thought of copying 200 posts into my word processing is daunting though. but what would I do if I lost everything? hmmm, hard to know. I do love having this blog as a journal of our time in this house.
Blogger just gave everyone a free weekend!
Glad you found a knot garden to give you some ideas.
Marguerite instead of being daunted at the thought of copying old posts into a word programme just start writing all new posts in a word programme, then occasionally copy one of the older posts into a word programme on your computer,
almost all the bloging platforms are free, my wordpress blog is free and the wordpress you may have read people pay for - well thats not true what they pay for is their url and in some cases through choice they paid for their choice of webhost but their wordpress blog is free, Frances
