Triumphs and Tragedies

Tragedy

I've run out of fresh compost to mulch my trees and shrubs.  I've been digging and shaking for what feels like weeks now.  I've covered about half of the plants but there's still more to be done.  What's a girl to do?  My second batch of compost has been overrun with apples and weeds and the mix isn't breaking down very quickly.

Triumph

Kent Hardware was having an end of season, get rid of everything garden, sale.  Mulch, compost, manure for half price.  YAH!  Trees, shrubs, beds will all be completed in the coming weeks.

A nursery near me puts out half off coupons this time of year. I almost always use them on soil or compost! Hopefully your tree's will appreciate all your hard work!

Laura - I've got my fingers crossed. This will be a test for the trees and myself alike. This is my first year putting a garden 'to bed' before a big winter. Hopefully everybody comes out unscathed in the spring.

I love a good bargain no matter the item. The trees should have a comfy winter.

Check out the bare root plants at Prairie Moon Nursery (www.prairiemoon.com), an amazing online nursery in Minnesota. Their plants are really healthy and incredibly cheap! It's the best way to fill a large space with native plants without going broke. The more plants you buy, the lower the price. I've been buying plants from them for years and am never disappointed. :0)

LifesHighway - good bargains are great, but even better when it's something I really needed!

TS - what a great nursery. Unfortunately they don't ship plants to Canada but I can get seeds and oh my goodness, I think I just wasted 20 minutes looking at asters. They must have 20 different kinds.
